Jaipal Singh Munda

Jaipal Singh Munda was an Adivasi politician, writer and Olympic-gold winning hockey player. Born in Ranchi District, he went on to study at the University of Oxford. In 1939, he became the President of the Adivasi Mahasabha, whose goal was to create ‘pan-tribal’ solidarity. From early on in his career, he advocated for the creation of  Jharkhand as an independent state. He was elected to the Constituent Assembly in 1946 as an Independent Candidate from Bihar.
